2020 Weightlifting Events Canceled or Postponed Due To Coronavirus (Updated)

The coronavirus pandemic is causing multiple Olympic weightlifting events to be cancelled, postponed, or otherwise affected. We at BarBend decided it would be helpful to have a continuously updated list of canceled and postponed weightlifting events. This information has been sourced from the International Weightlifting Federation’s calendar and news feed.

Here are the events that have had details published about or have been effected thus far:

2020 Tokyo Olympic Games – July 24-August 9

No, they’re not canceled, but we’re mentioning it because “Are the Olympics canceled?” is one of the most frequently asked questions. The Olympic Games are still slated to continue as scheduled, despite considerable speculation.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made clear that the Games will happen as scheduled but are reportedly considering prohibiting spectators. This is a tactic that other major events have implemented including the Arnold Sports Festival and the Olympic Torch Relay.

President Trump actually suggested postponing the Olympics until next year, but Japan’s Olympic Minister Seiko Hashimoto said on March 12,

The IOC and the organizing committee are not considering cancellation or a postponement — absolutely not at all.
